Status: Full-Time $14/HR with Benefits
Reports to: Restaurant Manager
Position Summary:
In restaurants, there is the front of the house: servers, bartenders, bussers and greeters, and the back of the house: the cooks and chefs. In between these two groups is the expeditor. Food expeditors communicate orders and information between the front of house and back of house, making sure that food is cooked in the right order, in a timely manner, and presented to the guests as beautifully as possible.
This position also ensures the kitchen (expeditor line) area is maintained as a clean, safe and sanitary area.
This position requires a friendly, highly self-motivated individual who can work with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Receive all incoming food orders
-Communicate between the kitchen staff and service staff
-Make sure that orders have been properly prepared before delivering them to the table
-Finalize the plate presentations per the recipe/plate presentation specifications
-Pass a final quality check on the food for plate presentation, temperature, garnish and time
-Keep orders flowing from the kitchen to the guests
-Directs food runners and servers who are delivering completed orders
-Set-up expeditor station, keeping it clean, organized and stocked throughout the shift
A successful expeditor has exceptional organization, coordination and communication skills
-Strong attention to detail
-Must be able to multi-task
-Be assertive and confident. Being able to speak up as needed and trust in your decisions
-Strong memorization skills
-Must be oriented to providing exceptional customer service
-Must have the ability to solve practical problems that may arise without a sense of panic
-Physical Requirements:
-Can carry at a minimum of 40 pounds with a large oval tray
-Can stand/stay on feet for up to 6 hours without a 30-minute break
-Must have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Education, Experience and Skill:
High school diploma and current food handlers certification
Working knowledge of guest services in a luxury hotel setting
Excellent command of the English language
Preferably bi-lingual in Spanish
Must have previous experience as a line cook, server or expeditor in a fast-paced environment
